COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Kaylor Chafin mowed down the Plowboys to clinch the Omaha Cup Championship Series with a 9-0 victory for the Farmers Thursday afternoon on Blue Bell Park at Olsen Field.

Chafin pitched a complete game during the seven-inning affair fanning 10. The senior didn't allow a baserunner to reach second until the sixth and surrendered only two hits. Chafin's performance coupled with a nine-run day on offense gave the Farmers a 3-1 series victory for 2017 Omaha Cup. The final game of the series and the fall season is still set for Friday at 6:05 p.m.

The Farmers took an early lead in the first inning with a rally started with a leadoff walk by Allonte Wingate. Michael Helman replaced Wingate at first on a fielder's choice grounder, and Helman made the rest happen himself, stealing second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

John Doxakis worked his 4.0 innings for the Plowboys getting a loss, but fanning six and allowing a pair of runs. The second run came in the fourth inning, jump-started by  a Will Frizzell double. Frizzell came around to score with the help of a dropped third strike and a fielder's choice.

Frizzell provided the Farmers with the first of many insurance runs in the seventh. The freshman drove home a pair with a bases-loaded, no-out single to inflate the cushion to 4-0. The Farmers kept it going in the fifth inning, tallying four more runs on a Cole Bedford sac fly and base knocks from Baine Schoenvogel and Zach DeLoach. Wingate added the ninth and final run in the seventh inning on an RBI fielder's choice. Austin Hendrix, Kyle Richardson and Nolan Hoffman pitched the last three innings for the Plowboys, allowing the final seven Farmer runs.

On the day, the 2-3 hitters in the Farmers lineup did most of the damage. Braden Shewmake reached four times during a 3-for-4 day that included a HBP and a run while newcomer Frizzell piled up three base hits and drove in two.
