Women’s Tennis Concludes Fall Slate at UNLV Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M women's tennis team closes out its fall tournament schedule this weekend at the Rebel Invitational, hosted by UNLV at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas.
"It's hard to believe that the fall season is already coming to an end," A&M head coach Mark Weaver said. "We have really been improving and raising our level of play in the practices. Now it's time to just let it happen in the tournament play out in Vegas."
Seven members of the A&M team will compete in the three-day tournament, which gets underway Friday and features two doubles flights and five singles flights. Representatives from Arizona, Grand Canyon, North Carolina State and Purdue also will be competing in the tournament.
The first round of doubles play begins at noon (10 a.m. MT) on Friday with Aggie seniors Domenica Gonzalez and Eva Paalma competing in the eight-team No. 1 draw against Devin Chypyha and Camila Wesbrooks of Arizona. The A&M freshman duo of Iulia Ivascu and Riley McQuaid also will compete in the No. 1 draw and will open against Taylor Bridges and Bianca Moldovan of North Carolina State.
Freshman Dorthea Faa-Hviding and sophomore Margo Taylor represent A&M in the No. 2 doubles draw, and they open against Purdue's Zala Dovnik and Caitlin Calkins.
Singles action gets underway at 1 p.m. (11 a.m. MT) on Friday with Aggie senior Macarena Olivares facing Martina Lo Pumo of Grand Canyon and Paalma taking on Moldovan of North Carolina State in the eight-player No. 1 singles draw.
Ivascu and Faa-Hviding will compete in the No. 2 singles draw, with Ivascu opening against Amanda Rebol of North Carolina State, and Faa-Hviding meeting Wesbrooks of Arizona at 1 p.m.
McQuaid represents A&M in the No. 3 singles draw and plays UNLV's Izumi Asano on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Aggie sophomore Margo Taylor will compete in the No. 4 singles draw and will face Zala Dovnik of Purdue at 2:30 p.m.
While the tournament is the final competition of 2017, A&M will compete in the Hawaii Invitational in Honolulu, Jan. 6-8, 2018, before beginning team dual match play on January 13.
