COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M senior Tina Nguyen was selected as the winner of Instagram's 2017 Student Section Challenge, announced Friday afternoon by Nick Marquez of Facebook Sports Partnerships. Nguyen, a telecommunications & media studies major from Nederland, Texas, was one of over 70 college students to participate in the nation-wide program.
As the winner, Nguyen will help produce content for the official @instagram handle at the College Football National Championship on Jan. 8 at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Nguyen will work with @instagram's content team to reach over 229 million people worldwide.
"It is pretty crazy to be selected, especially from a pool that I know was loaded with a lot talented students from around the country," Nguyen said. "I am really thankful for the opportunity to reach a broader audience. I am especially excited to represent Texas A&M and Texas A&M Athletics in Atlanta at the National Championship Game. Texas A&M has given me so many opportunities during my time in Aggieland and I am extremely grateful for and to have this happen during my senior year is very special."
Nguyen composed Instagram stories for Texas A&M Athletics @12thMan handle throughout the fall semester, featuring a wide range of topics including football, soccer and volleyball games, tailgating, softball and track facility groundbreaking and Bonfire Remembrance Day.
"We're super excited to work with Tina at the College Football National Championship," Marquez said. "Tina's impressive body of work, mastery of the creative tools and on camera persona were the deciding factors in the decision, kudos from all of us at Facebook and Instagram."
