Aggies Finish Fifth at Bandon Dunes
Mar 14, 2017 | Men's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Texas A&M junior Cameron Champ notched his third career top-five showing on Tuesday as the Aggie men's golf team finished fifth at the Bandon Dunes Championship.
"We're pretty disappointed in today's performance," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "We got off to a terrible start and were never able to get it back. We putted the worst we have all year, but I'm proud of the guys for settling down after the rough start and not letting it get as bad as it could have been."
Texas A&M (286-289-294=869, +5) continued its streak of finishing no lower than fifth during its eighth event this season. Oregon topped the 16-team leaderboard with a three-round total of 28-under par while Texas Tech, Oregon State and Colorado filled out the top four spots in the team standing behind the Ducks.
For Champ (68-71-71=210, -6) the finish (fifth) was the fourth top-10 showing of this season for the Sacramento, Calif., native as he carded his third round under par to end the tournament just four shots back of medalist Hannes Ronneblad of Texas Tech (-10).
Sophomore Chandler Phillips (72-70-70=212, -4), meanwhile, enjoyed then Aggies' best round of the day at two-under par to produce his team-leading seventh top-10 tournament of the season, ending play in a tie for ninth.
Junior Kavan Eubanks (69-72-77=218, +2) finished with a share of 20th place while Dan Erickson (79-76-76=231, +15) and Max Miller (77-76-81=234, +18) completed the A&M contingency at the event in 73rd and 82nd place, respectively.
"I think we learned a lot and got experience of playing in some tough conditions and dealing with adversity," Higgins added. "We'll use that and build on it going forward."
