
Texas A&M’s Kalonji grabs platform silver, qualifies for NCAA meet

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Texas A&M sophomore diver Alaïs Kalonji became the Aggies' 14th qualifier for the 2017 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships with a runner-up finish in the platform dive at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships on Wednesday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
Kalonji, from Rennes, France, grabbed the silver medal and her spot at the national meet with a 10-dive point total of 545.00, which was just eight points behind winner Abigail Knapton of Nebraska (553.00). A repeat NCAA qualifier, Kalonji earned honorable mention All-America honors at the 2016 NCAA Championships with an 11th place finish.
The two-time defending Southeastern Conference Champion Aggies will compete in the 2017 NCAA Championships March 15-18 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Texas A&M heads to Indianapolis with a streak of 10 straight top 10 NCAA finishes, including fourth-place efforts the last four years.
