INDIANAPOLIS --- Texas A&M graduate Sarah Gibson punched her ticket to the FINA World Championships with a runner-up finish in the 100-meter butterfly on Thursday at the Phillips 66 National Championships.
With her runner-up finish, Gibson, from San Antonio, Texas, earned a spot on Team USA and will compete at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in July. Gibson stood in sixth place at the halfway mark, but the two-time 100 fly conference champion covered the final 50 in 30.53 to edge Louisville junior-to-be Mallory Comerford for the coveted second-place spot by just .01 of a second, 57.96-57.97. Former NCAA Champion Kelsi Worrell touched first in 57.38. In the "C" final of the 100 fly, incoming freshman Taylor Pike (Bentonville, Ark.) placed fourth in 1:00.00.
In other action involving the Aggies, senior-to-be Jorie Caneta placed fifth in the 50 breaststroke in 30.99 and former A&M standout Breeja Larson was eighth in 31.28.
