
Texas A&M's Gibson adds the 50 butterfly to her World Championship schedule

INDIANAPOLIS --- 2017 Texas A&M graduate Sarah Gibson added another race to her FINA World Championships schedule by achieving a FINA "A" in a 50-meter buttefly time trial to highlight the Aggies' final day at the Phillips 66 National Championships on Saturday at the IU Natatorium.
Gibson, from San Antonio, Texas, went head-to-head with Cal's Abby Weitzeil and emerged victorious while also achieving a FINA "A" qualifying cut to grab the 50 fly berth in a time of 26.40. Gibson had qualified for Worlds earlier in the meet with a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly.
The 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships, which also served as the World Championships team trials, ended on Saturday with Gibson and teammate Bethany Galat earning spots on Team USA. Galat earned her spot with a runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke.
In other action involving the Aggies on Saturday, Texas A&M had a trio of swimmers earn spots in the 200 IM finals. Galat placed fifth in 2:12.66, senior-to-be Lisa Bratton was 11th in 2:14.42 and fellow senior-to-be Kristin Malone was 15th in 2:15.80.
Incoming freshman Joy Field, from Magnolia, Texas, placed seventh overall in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 16:27.91 and was the 18-and-under national champion.
Malone also finaled in the 50 freestyle and placed 14th with a lifetime best time of 25.37.
