
Texas A&M swimmers head to US Open Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. --- A large contingent of Texas A&M swimmers will compete in the 2017 U.S. Open Championships Aug. 2-6 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Texas A&M will be represented at the meet by 16 swimmers, as well as coaches Steve Bultman and Tanica Jamison from the women's team and Jay Holmes and Jason Calanog from the men's squad. The U.S. Open is a championship meet sanctioned by USA Swimming and is open to U.S. and international swimmers.

Texas A&M men's head coach Jay Holmes said, "We're going to be facing some really good competition this week and our focus will be on getting up on the block and racing. Our focus will be on getting better and this will be a fun event that will help us accomplish that. We've got a big crew of swimmers that will allow us to race some relays, including our medley relays which will be pretty competitive. We want to focus on each race one at a time and try to keep improving."

We're taking a big group and we'll be able to compete some relays, so that's a lot of quality races and that sort of experience will hopefully pay off down the road."
(On defending Texas A&M's team title from the 2016 U.S. Open) "Our No. 1 priority is swimming fast and competing. If swimming fast leads to winning the team title, then that's just an added bonus for us."
