Texas A&M’s Mond earns Tyler Rose Award weekly honors

TYLER, Texas – Texas A&M freshman quarterback Kellen Mond earned Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award honorable mention weekly honors on Tuesday after becoming the first true freshman in school history to log a 300-yard passing game in last Saturday's 45-21 win over Louisiana at Kyle Field. The Tyler Rose Award is given annually to the nation's top offensive player with ties to the state of Texas.
Mond, from San Antonio via IMG Academy in Florida, earned the first top freshman honor of his career by connecting on 21-of-34 passes for 301 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for another score. Mond's completions, attempts, yards, TD passes were all season and career highs, and his 76-yard pass to senior wide receiver Damion Ratley was the Aggies' long offensive play of the year.
Two of Mond's three TD strikes were reeled in by fellow members of the Aggies' stellar 2017 signing class – a 24-yarder by fellow IMG Academy alumni Jhamon Ausbon and a 12-yarder by Camron Buckley. It was a huge day in general for the Aggies' 2017 signing class as four true freshmen scored touchdowns for the first time in school history – Ausbon, Buckley, freshman RB Jacob Kibodi on a 67-yard run and Mond on a 5-yard run.
