COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M soccer coach G Guerrieri was bestowed the United Soccer Coaches Presidential Recognition Award at the organization's annual convention in Philadelphia.
Â
Each year, United Soccer Coaches recognizes a select few for their special contributions to the sport and the USC membership at the annual Convention. The Presidential Recognition Award may be presented in a given year to recognize groups or individuals of the soccer community for their impact on the game of soccer or those involved in the sport worldwide.
Â
Benchmarks for nomination include extraordinary success in the national and/or international arena; exceptional acts of courage, inspiration or philanthropy that have a long-lasting impact on the sport; or incomparable achievement, acts of service or contributions to the game in the preceding year.
Â
One of the winningest coaches in the history of NCAA Division I soccer, Guerrieri has established Texas A&M as a premier program in the nation. Under his tutelage, Texas A&M is one of only five teams to play in every NCAA Tournament the last 23 seasons. Guerrieri has led the Maroon and White to 14 Sweet Sixteens, six Elite Eights and the 2014 NCAA Women's College Cup. Coach G's Aggies have consistently been ranked in the national top 25 over the past 20+ seasons while attracting some of the top soccer players in the world to College Station.
Guerrieri ranks fourth all-time among NCAA Division I coaches with 441 wins and sixth with a .756 winning percentage. He has guided Texas A&M to nine conference regular-season titles and eight conference tournament crowns. He is a four-time conference coach of the year and five-time NSCAA Central Region Coach of the Year. Guerrieri and North Carolina's Anson Dorrance are the only two coaches to lead a team to 23 consecutive NCAA Championship tournaments.
With Guerrieri at the helm, Texas A&M has established one of the greatest college soccer atmospheres in the country. The Aggies ranked in the top three in home attendance from 2002-17, including the nation's top attendance in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007. Furthermore, Guerrieri's teams have won 85Â percent of their home matches since the Aggie Soccer Stadium opened in 1994. He also helped Ellis Field secure College Cup hosting bids on three occasions.
Not only have Guerrieri's teams fared well on the field, but all of the student-athletes that have completed their playing careers for him at A&M have either graduated or are on schedule to graduate. In so doing, the team has annually maintained a team GPA above 3.0. In November of 2017, the Aggies again earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award (composite team GPA of at least 3.0 for all team members who appear on the official NCAA roster forms) for the sixth consecutive season.
Guerrieri is a member of both the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America) and the United States Soccer Coaches Program. In addition, he holds an United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Coaching diploma and a USSF "A" coaching license and is the former head coach of the South's amateur team in the U.S. Soccer Festival. He served as the Division I Chair of women's soccer for the NSCAA from 1996-2002, guiding NCAA women's soccer through its greatest period of expansion.
Â
United Soccer Coaches administers an extensive awards and recognition program which includes Coach of the Year, All-America, long-term service and special recognition awards designed to recognize excellence in soccer, academics and service to the game. In all, nearly 11,000 awards are presented by USC each year.
