NEW ORLEANS – Improved performances amid a pair of home team victories this month has moved Texas A&M men and women up to No. 3 and No. 7, respectively, in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national team computer rankings, which were released Monday.
The Aggie men, who were ranked No. 17 in the preseason indoor rankings, vaulted to No. 3 behind a pair of 18-1 ¼ (5.52) clearances by Jacob Wooten and Audie Wyatt to finish first and second in the pole vault this past weekend. The pair are currently tied for fourth on this year's collegiate list while Will Williams is tied for second on the long jump collegiate list with a 25-9 ¼ (7.85) effort.
In addition, times of 46.10 by Mylik Kerley and 46.22 from Robert Grant for a 1-2 Texas A&M finish in the 400m were part of the rankings improvement along with a 3:04.38 performance in the 4x400 relay. The relay is currently second on the collegiate list while Kerley, Grant and Ilolo Izu (46.34) rank 2-3-4 in the 400m.
Texas A&M women, who were No. 10 in preseason indoor rankings, currently have collegiate leading marks for 2018 in the 200m, with a 23.10 from Danyel White, and the distance medley relay, with a school record performance of 11:12.06.
Jazmine Fray is currently second among collegians in the 800m with her 2:04.97 meet record from this past weekend while Jaevin Reed is currently fifth in the 400m this season with a 53.56. Improvement in the jumps have a pair of Aggies among the top 10 in the triple jump as Lajarvia Brown and Ciynamon Stevenson produced marks of 43-8 (13.31) and 43-2 ½ (13.17).
The men's top 10 teams include: 1. Florida, 2. Georgia, 3. Texas A&M, 4. Texas Tech, 5. Alabama, 6. Kentucky, 7. Arkansas, 8. Colorado, 9, Indiana, 10. Colorado State.
Top 10 women's teams include: 1. Oregon, 2. Arkansas, 3. Georgia, 4. Southern California, 5. Florida, 6. Kentucky, 7. Texas A&M, 8. Texas, 9. LSU, 10. Mississippi.
Eleven SEC women's teams are among the top 25 in this installment of the national team computer rankings, while there are six SEC men's team among the top 25.
This coming weekend the Aggies travel for the first time this season to compete in the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville on Friday, January 26, and Saturday, January 27. Teams scheduled for the meet include Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa State, Kansas State, LSU, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, and Southern California.
