BIRMINGHAM – Two Texas A&M athletes were recognized this week for SEC track and field honors. Sophomore Danyel White shared the women's Runner of the Week honor while Tyra Gittens was named women's Freshman of the Week.
Â
White won the 200m during the Texas A&M Quadrangular with the fastest collegiate time so far during the 2018 indoor season. Her 23.10, which is just 0.10 away from her indoor best set last year, also ranks second best in the world this indoor season. White also split 53.21 on the Aggie 4x400 relay that posted a runner-up time of 3:36.35.
Â
Sharing the honor with White was LSU sprinter Aleia Hobbs, who ran a personal best time of 7.14 to win the 60m in Iowa.
Â
Gittens claimed her second high jump title of the season with an indoor best of 5-10 ¾ (1.80), which moves her to No. 8 on the Texas A&M all-time list. Gittens, currently the top freshman high jumper this indoor season, is tied for third on the SEC indoor list.
Â
A multi-event athlete, Gittens is scheduled to compete in her first pentathlon as an Aggie during the Razorback Invitational this weekend.
