COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A day after being named the Co-SEC Golfer of the Week, Texas A&M's Chandler Phillips received another honor Thursday when he was named to the watch list for the prestigious Haskins Award.
Â
The Fred Haskins Award, presented by Stifel, is given annually to the best college golfer, as voted by players, coaches and media.
Â
Phillips, who appears at No. 10 on the Haskins Award watch list, is in the midst of another stellar campaign for the Maroon & White which has already seen him post four top-10 showings with a pair of wins in six events. Phillips currently maintains a 70.50 stroke average, which is on pace to be the lowest for a single season in program history, a distinction he already holds after posting a 71.15 average last season.
Â
A second-team PING All-American last season after he won a pair of tournaments, Phillips has earned medalist honors this year at the Badger Invitational, where he set the event's scoring record for an individual at 12-under par, and the John Burns Intercollegiate, where he became the long-standing event's first ever repeat champion. Phillips was named Co-SEC Golfer of the Week on Feb. 21 for his performance in Hawai'i at the John Burns Intercollegiate.
Â
Philips' four individual tournament victories stand one shy of the Texas A&M's career record set by Anthony Rodriguez (1991-1995).
Â
The Huntsville, Texas, native has carded rounds of par or lower in 13 of 18 rounds this season to lead Texas A&M to four team tournament titles in six events. The Aggies are currently ranked No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll and the Golfstat.com Team Rankings.
Â
In addition to his accomplishments for Texas A&M, Phillips has made an impression on the international golf scene as he was chosen as one of just six collegiate golfers to represent the United States during the 2017 Arnold Palmer Cup. He is ranked No. 10 in the most recent Arnold Palmer Cup Spring rankings which were revealed on Thursday. The top six golfers from the final ranking in the spring from both the United States and International men and women - 12 total golfers - shall be among the 24 individuals selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup July 6-8.
Â
Phillips and his Texas A&M teammates return to the course Feb. 26-27 when they travel to Lafayette, La., for the Louisiana Classics from Oakbourne Country Club.
