COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies dropped a 1-0 decision to the Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League at Ellis Field Friday evening, with the decisive goal coming in the 87th minute.
Â
With the Aggies appearing to play the Dash, members of the world's highest professional women's soccer league, to a scoreless draw, Houston struck with just over three minutes left in the match. Caity Heap controlled a pass outside the penalty box, worked her way past one A&M defender before putting a shot in to the bottom corner of the near post.
Â
The Dash owned narrow edges in shots (12-10) and shots-on-goal (6-4), but were able to work the end lines, gaining a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
Â
The Aggies best look came with a three-shot sequence in the ninth minute. Jimena Lopez sent in a curling header from a dangerous range to start the chaos as Houston's goalkeeper Sarah Shimer was forced to make a pair of saves, before the third A&M shot went off target.
Â
Texas A&M had a chance for an equalizer with a free kick in the 89th minute, but Lopez was unable to deliver a menacing offering.
Â
The Aggies return to action Thursday when they host the Mexico Under-20 Women's National Team in an 8 p.m. exhibition match at Ellis Field.
