BIRMINGHAM, England – Aggie alum Deon Lendore earned a bronze medal in the 400 meter final at the IAAF World Championships after a pair of disqualifications moved him up from an original fifth-place finish.

Another Aggie alum, Fred Kerley, ran the opening leg of the United States 4x400 relay, splitting 45.20, as the squad won its heat in 3:04.00 to advance to Sunday's final.

Representing Trinidad & Tobago, Lendore posted a time of 46.37 from his lane one starting position. He was at the back of the six-man field for a majority of the race, and was able to move into fifth place in the final strides.

The initial winner of the race, Oscar Husillos of Spain, set a championship record of 44.92 while Dominican Republic's Luguelin Santos improved his national record to 45.09 as runner-up. However, both were disqualified for lane infringement.

Two-time defending World Indoor champion Pavel Maslak of Czech Republic ran a time of 45.47 and moved from third to first following the pair of DQs. Also moving up into a medal position was Michael Cherry of the United States, who ran 45.84 and was awarded the silver medal.

This is the third bronze medal Lendore has claimed at a World Indoors. In 2016, Lendore picked up a pair of bronze medals in the 400m and as a member of the 4x400 relay.

The United States time of 3:04.00 in the prelims of the 4x400 relay lead the qualifiers to the final. Joining Kerley on the relay were Marqueze Washington, Paul Dedewo and Vernon Norwood.

Also advancing to the final, which will be run at 11:25 a.m. CT on Sunday, were Belguim (3:05.22), Poland (3:05.24), Great Britain (3:05.29), Trinidad & Tobago (3:05.96), and the Czech Republic (3:06.40).
