BIRMINGHAM, England – The final day of the IAAF World Indoor Championships had a pair of Aggie alums running the first leg of the 4x400 relay for their respective countries and a silver medal was claimed by Fred Kerley with the United States.

Kerley produced the fastest ever lead-off split of 44.85 seconds as the United States crew came within a 0.01 of a second of the American record with a 3:01.97 performance for the silver medal. Deon Lendore led off the Trinidad & Tobago effort as they finished in fourth place with a national record of 3:01.52 just 0.01 from bronze that was claimed by Belgium (3:01.51).

The relay gold medal went to Poland, who caught the United States in the final few meters of the race and set a world record of 3:01.77 with the victory.

Kerley established a world best of 44.96 for a first leg carry in the 4x400 as an Aggie senior in 2017. He improved that effort in providing the United States a healthy 10m lead over Poland. The following legs for the Americans included Michael Cherry (45.34), Aldrich Bailey (46.11) and Vernon Norwood (45.68).

Following the lead-off effort from lane one by Lendore for Trinidad & Tobago were Jereem Richards, Asa Guevara and Lalonde Gordon.

Poland's time bettered the ratified world record of 3:02.13 set in 2014 as well as the world best time of 3:01.96 established by an American foursome in 2006. Belgium becomes the third fastest country with the ninth best performance on the all-time world list. Trinidad & Tobago is the fourth fastest country with the equal 10th best performance.
