MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Texas A&M trio of senior Tyler Henschel, junior Sam Thornton and freshman Kurtis Mathews qualified for the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championship in the one-meter dive on the second day of the NCAA Zone D Qualifier on Tuesday at the University of Minnesota.
On the day after they qualified for nationals in the three-meter dive, the trio posted strong finishes to earn spots in a second event. Thornton placed third overall with a 12-dive total of 748.10 points, Mathews was sixth with a 714.80 score and Henschel was ninth with 682.05 points. Junior teammate Skylar Lake just missed qualifying with a 14th place finish with 652.50.
On the women's side, freshman Kaja Skrzek and freshman Harper Walding made the finals, but didn't advance to the NCAA Championships. Skrzek was 12th with 621.20 and Walding was 17th with 582.90.
