MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Following the opening 36 holes of competition at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club, the Texas A&M men's golf team is in second place, just four shots off the lead, at the General Hackler Championship.

"It was a really long day out there and I'm proud of the guys for hanging in there," Texas A&M head coach J.T. Higgins said. "I think we got a little tired at the end and just didn't finish very strong. It cost us because Georgia Tech played great down the stretch. I think they beat us by about six shots coming in and that's pretty much the difference right now."

Texas A&M (281-290=571, -5) owned the top spot on the 15-team leaderboard after the opening round of the day, but as conditions turned cooler and more windy in the afternoon round, the Yellowjackets (283-284=567, -9) overtook the Aggies to end the day in the pole position. Kentucky (E), LSU (+5) and Virginia (+5) round out the top five squads on the leaderboard.

The Aggies, in search of their third consecutive tournament victory, will begin teeing off their final round at 9 a.m. (CT) Sunday morning alongside golfers from Georgia Tech and Kentucky.

"We're still in striking distance, in the final group and only four shots back," Higgins added. "We've shown that we're capable of making a lot of birdies out here, so I like where we are at and am looking forward to tomorrow."

Individually, all six Aggie players in the field hold a spot in the top 25 led by sophomore Dan Erickson (69-72=141, -3), who stands tied for fifth after a bogey-free opening round and a second round of even par.

Senior Andrew Paysse (68-74=142, -2) is tied for seventh, two shots ahead of rookie Walker Lee (72-72=144, E), who holds a share of 15th after back-to-back rounds of even par. Junior Chandler Phillips (72-73=145, +1) and sophomore Josh Gliege (73-73=146, +2) round out the A&M lineup in 19th and 25th, respectively.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Brandon Smith (71-71=142, -2) is tied alongside Paysse with a share of seventh.

"Today we got great play out of really everybody," Higgins said. "All our guys were around par, but obviously Dan and Andrew set the pace for everybody. I'm also really proud of Walker for two solid rounds. We'll see if we can't get everybody going tomorrow and make a run."
