SUNSET, S.C.- Texas A&M senior Maddie Szeryk fired a 4-under 68 to tie for fourth, and leads the Aggie women's golf team after the first of three rounds at the Clemson Invitational. Texas A&M shot a 4-over 292 in the first round at the Reserve at Lake Keowee.
The Aggies are 15 strokes behind tournament co-leaders No. 7 Furman and No. 11 Michigan State after a round, sitting in ninth place. Szeryk is two shots behind the Spartans' Sarah Burnham for the individual lead.
Szeryk shot par-or-better for the 18th time in 23 tries this season, and her 4-under score matches her best of the season. She birdied six holes on the par 72 / 6,260-yard course Friday.
Freshman Amber Park shot a 1-over 73 to tie for 34th place. Courtney Dow carded a 3-over 75 to tie for 55th. Ariana Saenz is tied for 62nd with a 4-over 76 and Chloe Velasco rounds out the A&M lineup with a 9-over 81, tied for 80th.
