Texas Relays performance earns Tyra Gittens another SEC Freshman of the Week honor

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Tyra Gittens earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week following a runner-up performance in the Texas Relays heptathlon as she produced a career best score of 5,700 points.

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Tyra Gittens earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the second consecutive week following a runner-up performance in the Texas Relays heptathlon as she produced a career best score of 5,700 points.
 
Gittens ranks as the No. 4 performer with the No. 10 performance on the Texas A&M all-time list. The three Aggies ahead of Gittens on the all-time list include Annie Kunz (6,038), Jena Hemann (6,022) and Daphne Fitzpatrick (5,811).
 
The Texas Relays performance by Gittens ranks third among collegians this season and she currently has produced the top score by a freshman. On the 2018 world list Gittens currently ranks eighth.
 
Gittens improved upon her previous best of 5,490 points set last summer when she improved her national junior record for Trinidad & Tobago. Gittens remains No. 2 on the senior all-time list for Trinidad & Tobago, trailing only the national record of 5,962 points set by Marsha Mark-Baird in 2004.
