COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior pitcher Mitchell Kilkenny was named to the Golden Spikes Award "Midseason Watch List" released by USA Baseball on Tuesday.
Â
The "Midseason Watch List" includes 40 of the top collegiate players in the nation. Presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 41st Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 28 in Los Angeles.
Â
For the season, Kilkenny is 7-0 with a 1.49 ERA, .195 opponent batting average and 44 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.
Â
Kilkenny is one of just three players in the nation with a 7-0 mark heading into this weekend's action, joined by East Carolina's Chris Holba and San Francisco's Riley Ornido. Kilkenny ranks 31st in the nation in ERA, 37th in WHIP (0.90) and 61st in hits allowed per nine innings (6.13).
Â
The Houston, Texas, native became the first Aggie pitcher to start 7-0 since Grayson Long in 2015.Â
Â
Kilkenny earned SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week recognition Monday after working the league's only 9-inning complete-game effort against a ranked opponent on the weekend in Saturday's 3-1 victory over No. 20 LSU. He yielded just one run on five hits and one walk while striking out four in 9.0 innings. He faced just two over the minimum through the first seven innings before allowing a run in the eighth.
Â
The Houston, Texas, native returns to the mound Friday evening when he faces the Alabama Crimson Tide in the second contest of the three-game series. First pitch is slated for 6:32 p.m.
