Aggie trio earns SEC Athlete of the Week honors

BIRMINGHAM – Three Texas A&M athletes were selected for SEC track and field honors this week. The trio included Will Williams as men's Field Athlete of the Week, Jazmine Fray as women's Runner of the Week and Lajarvia Brown as women's Field Athlete of the Week.

BIRMINGHAM – Three Texas A&M athletes were selected for SEC track and field honors this week. The trio included Will Williams as men's Field Athlete of the Week, Jazmine Fray as women's Runner of the Week and Lajarvia Brown as women's Field Athlete of the Week.
 
All three produced collegiate leading marks in their respective events as the Aggies swept the team titles during the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational this past weekend.
 
Williams produced the U.S. and collegiate leading long jump mark of this outdoor season with a winning leap of 26-4 ½ (8.04), which currently ranks ninth on the 2018 outdoor world list. The effort by Williams is the No. 4 performer and equals the No. 7 performance on the Texas A&M all-time list.
 
Fray improved her school record in the 800m to 2:01.18 at the same venue she established the Aggie record of 2:01.43 last season. Her effort is the collegiate leader for the outdoor season and ranks 14th on the world list.
 
Brown set a career best of 44-6 ¾ (13.58) to win the triple jump at UCLA, producing the mark into a -1.1 wind. Her effort is the top mark this outdoor season by a U.S. collegian and she ranks second among collegians overall. Brown currently ranks third on this season's U.S. list and equal 14th on the world list. She is now the No. 4 performer and equals the No. 5 performance on the Aggie all-time list.
 
This Saturday, Texas A&M travels to Waco for the Michael Johnson Invitational. Scheduled teams competing include Abilene Christian, Arkansas (men), Baylor, Iowa State, Northern Illinois (women), Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas and Texas Tech.
 
Texas A&M men and women are both nationally ranked No. 3 this week in the USTFCCCA national team computer rankings.
