Texas A&M Athletics' 12th Man Productions, led by assistant athletics director Andy Richardson, has been named the 2018 winner of the Sports Video Group (SVG) and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Administration (NACDA) Technology Leadership Award.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M Athletics' 12th Man Productions, led by assistant athletics director Andy Richardson, has been named the 2018 winner of the Sports Video Group (SVG) and National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Administration (NACDA) Technology Leadership Award.

"Our 12th Man Productions crew is an outstanding, award-winning staff that takes great pride in telling our Aggie story," said Scott Woodward, Texas A&M Director of Athletics. "We know they are among the very best in the country and it is tremendous to see them honored."

The SVG/NACDA Athletics Administration Technology Leadership Award is presented annually to a university athletics department or conference office in recognition of excellence for investment in, and execution of, broadcast and video infrastructure and technologies. The nominees are judged on innovation, leadership, vision, and culture as well as performance.

Back in 1993, an internal production unit was created to support video production creative for Texas A&M athletics and the facility and group was branded 12th Man Productions in 2007. What began with a single control room with three AVID edit bays has grown to the current $11.8 million facility inside Kyle Field.

The current facility hosts four control rooms capable of producing side-by-side live broadcasts and videoboard events simultaneously with fiber connectivity to on-campus athletics facilities. Included in the facility are two production studios with setups for post-production and live production creative along with a radio set for live radio and web content streaming.

The 12th Man Productions staff consists of 13 full-time professional staff members supporting post-production as well as live event productions. A student work force of 90 students is trained by the staff to support live control room events and post-production projects. Many of these students have opportunities to work with The SEC Network as well as ESPN.

Overall, the group produces more than 100 in-venue shows to go along with more than 80 SEC Network broadcasts annually.

The 12th Man Productions group produces "The Pulse", a weekly football show in the fall, as well as a spring sports show titled "The Beat", recapping all of the spring sporting events. The group has been honored numerous times with Telly Awards, including a Bronze Telly Award in 2017. They were selected from more than 13,000 entries for their work on "The Beat". 12th Man Productions received a SVG award for program series in 2013, and for live studio/remote hosted programming in 2016 as well as a 2016 Lone Star Regional Emmy Award for the Aggie football TV show.

The group was also honored for their outstanding work including an award-winning show in 2009 on the 10th anniversary of the collapse of the Aggie Bonfire. The group produces The Pulse, the weekly Aggie football show, that has earned several Emmy nominations, winning an Emmy in 2016.

The 2018 award will be presented Thursday, May 31, at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta.
