COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M junior right-hander Nolan Hoffman was one of 20 players named as semifinalists for the 2018 Pitcher of the Year Award, presented by the College Baseball Foundation.
This season, Hoffman is 4-1 with 12 saves, a 1.39 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 45.1 innings. In the talent-laden SEC, he is 1-1 with six saves, a 1.48 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.
A workhorse out of the bullpen, nine of Hoffman's 12 saves have required more than an inning of work and three of his four wins have been multi-inning appointments, including two victories with 3.0-plus innings of work.
Hoffman's 12 saves lead the SEC and rank 19th in the country. He also ranks 18th in the nation in pitching appearances with 29.
The Lincoln, Neb., native is two saves shy of Texas A&M's single-season record of 14 set by Jason Jester in 2013.
Awarded since 2009, past winners include Major Leaguers Stephen Strasburg (2009), Trevor Bauer (2011), Jon Gray (2013), Aaron Nola (2014) and Carson Fulmer (2015).
