HOOVER, Alabama – The Texas A&M Aggies continue their run at the SEC Tournament Thursday when they face the No. 21 Auburn Tigers with a spot in Saturday's single-elimination semifinal game on the line. Game time at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium is slated for 4:30 p.m.
The winner gets Friday off to rest up while the losing team plays an elimination game Friday to earn the other spot in the semifinal game.
The Aggies' pitching staff has been dominating early in the tournament, allowing just one run through the first 18 innings. They have held opponents to a .172 batting average (11-for-64), just one extra-base hit and five walks while striking out 21. Kaylor Chafin and Asa Lacy, who combined on just three starts in the regular-season, both worked 6.0 innings and relievers Nolan Hoffman and Cason Sherrod both picked up three-inning saves.
Texas A&M's offense has also picked up its play in the tournament, batting .319 (22-for-69). Five Aggies have logged three hits apiece, including Chris Andritsos who has team highs with three runs, two home runs and four RBI.
To round out the stellar play, the Aggies have played two errorless games in Hoover.
The Aggies are looking for their second SEC Tournament crown, to go with their 2016 title. Texas A&M owns a 9-6 record all-time at the SEC Tournament logging a pair of wins in both 2013 and 2015 in addition to the four wins during the 2016 title run.
