Nebo to Participate at Inaugural FISU America Games

SÃO PAULO, Brazil – Texas A&M junior forward Josh Nebo is one of 10 players set to represent Team USA at the inaugural International University Sports Federation America games in São Paulo, Brazil. Nebo and the USA men's basketball team will begin play Wednesday, July 25, against the loser of Tuesday's matchup between Mexico and Chile.

SÃO PAULO, Brazil – Texas A&M junior forward Josh Nebo is one of 10 players set to represent Team USA at the inaugural International University Sports Federation America games in São Paulo, Brazil. Nebo and the USA men's basketball team will begin play Wednesday, July 25, against the loser of Tuesday's matchup between Mexico and Chile.
 
"It is always a great honor for a player to be able to represent their country in international competition and it something Josh [Nebo] will remember for the rest of his life," Texas A&M basketball head coach Billy Kennedy said. "This is a great chance for Josh to compete against high level competition after sitting out last season and will definitely help him get ready to contribute for us this season."
 
Joining Nebo on the roster are Shannon Bogues and TJ Holyfield (Stephen F Austin), Markus Golder (Valparaiso), Phlandrous Fleming (Charleston Southern), Drew McDonald (Northern Kentucky), Eli Cain (DePaul), Tayler Persons (Ball State), Fred Scott (Rider) and Billy Wampler (Wright State). Morris Michalski, veteran Athletes In Action coach, serves as head coach of the team.
 
Following Wednesday's game, Team USA will take on the winner of the Mexico/Chile game on Thursday, July 26. After conclusion of round-robin play semifinal games are set for Friday, July 27, then medal games will take place on Saturday, July 28.
 
 
About the FISU Games
Nearly 1,000 student-athletes from 12 North and South American countries are in São Paulo, Brazil for the inaugural FISU American Games. Student-athletes from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, United States, and Uruguay will compete in 13 sports, July 20-28, 2018.
 
The United States delegation of 96 student-athletes will compete in men's and women's basketball, judo, track and field, and men's and women's volleyball. In total, 138 Americans will participate in the FISU America Games. Additional sports the U.S. does not have representation in, includes futsal, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, women's soccer, Paralympic swimming, Paralympic table tennis, and Paralympic track and field. All sports except futsal and soccer will be hosted at the recently-constructed Brazilian Paralympic Center.
 
The FISU America Games are a multi-sport event sanctioned by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Alternating with the Summer and Winter Universiades, which invite all the countries of the world for the biennial events, the FISU America Games are a regional multi-sport event similar to the Pan-American Games for FISU member-countries of North and South America held in even-numbered years.
