COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Three players who enjoyed success at Ellis Field are continuing their exploits this season in the National Women's Soccer League. Merritt Mathias, Alyssa Mautz and Shea Groom are all playing integral parts for their respective NWSL clubs as the league heads down the home stretch.

Merritt Mathias is enjoying one of the best years in her playing career. On June 12, Mathias joined Bryn Blalack as the Aggies who earned caps with the United States Women's National Team as she played 13 minutes as a reserve in a match against China. She is currently on her third stint with USWNT on the Tournament of Nations roster.

Playing her first season with the North Carolina Courage, she has started 17 matches and registered three goals and one assist from the backline. The NWSL Media Association named her to the June Team of the Month. Her season's first tally earned Goal of the Week recognition by the NWSL on April 24. The Courage hold a sizable 16-point lead in the NWSL standings as the league hits the homestretch. The two-time All-Big 12 performer currently ranks fourth on the NWSL's career games played list with 117.

In her sixth season with the Chicago Red Stars, Mautz has played in 17 games, earning 14 starts. She has three goals and three assists on the season. The midfielder recently moved into seventh place on the NWSL career games played list with 112. She has 15 goals and eight assists for her career.

After three seasons as a standout with the FC Kansas City, Groom is in her first year as a forward for Sky Blue FC. The 2014 All-American has played in 15 games this season, including 12 starts. She has registered one goal on the season. In 2016, Groom became the first Aggie to earn All-NWSL recognition, as she was named to the Second XI.
