OVERVIEW
Head Coach G Guerrieri will breathe much easier in 2018 when it comes to the goalkeeper corps. Last year, the Aggies spent much of the season with just one goalkeeper cleared to play after an early season injury to Olivia Ausmus forced Cosette Morché to play every minute of the 2017 campaign. Things were so precarious that Jimena Lopez was being prepped as an emergency keeper.
Morché was unrelenting between the pipes and posted a season worthy of All-SEC honors. She registered a 0.75 goals-against average and eight shutouts as the Maroon & White posted the best winning percentage in school history (.848).
The Aggies go into 2018 with Morché and freshman Jordan Burbank ready to roll and Ausmus just weeks away from being cleared to give Texas A&M as deep of a crop of netminders as they've had in years.
COACH G'S TAKE...
"Both goalkeepers return from our spring season, Cosette Morché and Jordan Burbank. Both are excellent shot stoppers. They're courageous and very intimidating to our opponents when they're in goal. I'm very comfortable with whoever's in goal for us that we're going to have a great performance. Last year, Cosette had to carry it all by herself when Olivia got hurt. We flew without a safety net for a while. The competition between Jordan and Cosette to see who's going to be the starter to get the season going is great. In the spring, Jordan was fantastic. She came in and really took on all of the challenges. Cosette got herself going and got progressively better and better as the spring went on."
OLIVIA AUSMUS
Ausmus spent the 2017 campaign as a medical redshirt. She enjoyed a stellar prep career at Klein (Texas) High School. She was awarded District 15-6A Goalkeeper MVP and All-District 15-6A First Team honors in 2015, while helping the squad to state playoffs as a freshman and sophomore. She has been on the radar of US Soccer, participating in a U-18 National Camp in 2015. She was a member of Challenge SC for eight years, including five years as a captain. Ausmus earned a spot on the 2016 Elite Clubs National League (ECNL)/id2 National Training Camp roster.
COACH G'S TAKE...
"Olivia will be back early in the regular-season. She is one of the premier goalkeepers in the United States coming through as a youth player. She has perhaps the best hands that we've ever seen here at Texas A&M and that's saying something because we've had some exceptional All-American goal keepers here. She's an elite shot stopper. She's a very good distributor. Olivia is a good leader and communicator. We're hoping that we get a chance to have her back in the mix real soon."
JORDAN BURBANK
Last season, Burbank was the top prep goalkeeper in Oklahoma. A three-year letterwinner at Edmond North, she notched a 37-14-1 record, including 27 shutouts. Burbank guided her squad to the state semifinal all three of her varsity seasons. Last year, she posted a 15-2-1 mark with 11 shutouts and a 0.67 goals-against average. Burbank earned VYPE All-OKC, The Oklahoman All-City and All-Metro Athletics Conference as a junior as she led the Huskies to a conference title, district championship along with a No. 2 state ranking and No. 20 national ranking. On the club scene, Burbank helped Oklahoma FC win five state titles as well as advancing to the Region III finals on three occasions. In 2017, she guided Oklahoma FC to the USYS National Championships with a sixth-place finish and a Super Y National Championship title.
COACH G'S TAKE...
"Jordan is a pure shot blocker. She's cat quick and very courageous in the way that she goes about her game. She's come in and stepped into the college game. Her speed of play has been one of the biggest things where we've seen improvement in her as the spring season went on and as she comes through this season."
COSETTE MORCHÉ
She was outstanding in her first season in Aggieland. Morché started all 22 games for Texas A&M with eight shutouts, 18 victories, 70 saves and a .805 save percentage through 2,050 minutes in goal. She played two seasons for the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns in 2015-16. Her Division I numbers through three seasons include a 30-17-5 record, 14 shutouts, 259 saves and a 1.17 goals-against average in 52 matches.
COACH G'S TAKE...
"Cosette, obviously with her tall, lean frame, can be very intimidating. She's very good in the air. She has great range in her box and is able to cover balls that are served in. She's very quick and an excellent one-on-one player. A lot of her biggest saves last year came in bang-bang situations, right in front of goal. She's very courageous and unselfish in the way that does whatever she has to do to make a save."
