COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M softball team earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA after scoring a perfect 1000 in the most recent Academic Progress Rates (APR).
Â
"I'm proud of the hard work and dedication our student-athletes have put into their academic pursuits," head coach Jo Evans said. "We are fortunate to have an outstanding academic supervisor, Mindy Phillips, who has been tireless in her support and direction of our academic program. Academic excellence is a top priority for our program and I congratulate our players and staff for creating an environment of academic excellence."
Â
Texas A&M was one of three teams in the SEC to receive the award, along with Kentucky and Alabama. In the state of Texas, the Aggies were just one of two schools honored by the NCAA.
Â
Continuing their academic success, the Aggies had 10 student-athletes named to the 2018 Spring SEC Honor Roll and four freshmen named to the 2017-18 First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Â
For the first time ever, Texas A&M had three athletic programs earn Public Recognition Awards as men's basketball and women's cross country were amongst the top 10 percent in their respective sports.
Â
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
Â
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
