COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies finalized the remainder of their non-conference games for the 2019 baseball campaign, head coach Rob Childress announced Friday.
Â
The released batch of games includes three-game weekend home series against Illinois-Chicago (Feb. 22-24) and Gonzaga (March 8-10) along with nine additional midweek games, all to be played at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Â
Illinois-Chicago (UIC) is coming off a 30-18 campaign, including a 15-9 finish in the Horizon League. The Flames have fared well against Power 5 teams in non-conference action in recent years, including winning two of three at Vanderbilt in 2017. That season, UIC also put in a valiant showing at the Hattiesburg Regional, dropping one-run decisions to Southern Miss and Mississippi State.
Â
It will mark the fourth visit to Aggieland for UIC. The Flames played in the 2008 College Station Regional, including a 15-1 loss to the Aggies. UIC opened both the 2012 and '13 seasons at Blue Bell Park with the Flames giving Texas A&M their opening-day defeat since 2001 with a 2-0 victory in 2013.
Â
Gonzaga is making their second trip to Blue Bell Park. In 2011, the Bulldogs gave Texas A&M's eventual College World Series team all it could handle during a February visit. The Aggies won two out of three in the series, but needed 11 innings to claim the opener, 1-0.
Â
The Bulldogs have enjoyed recent success, including winning West Coast Conference regular-season titles in 2016 and '17 and making NCAA Regional appearances in 2016 and '18.
Â
Texas A&M is slated to play two midweek games each of the first three weeks. The first week features a Tuesday game against Stephen F. Austin (Feb. 19) and a Wednesday game vs. Prairie View A&M (Feb. 20). The following week the Aggies face Houston Baptist (Feb. 26) and Incarnate Word (Feb. 27). The third week pits Texas A&M against A&M-Corpus Christi (March 5) and Abilene Christian (March 6).
Â
Other freshly minted game dates include Lamar (March 26), Texas State (April 9) and UT-Arlington (April 23). All of the 2019 midweek home games feature squads that have made frequent visits to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park in recent years with the exception of Lamar who has not played in Aggieland since 2006.
Â
Texas A&M finished the 2018 campaign with a 40-22 mark, making their 34th NCAA Championship appearance overall and their 12th in a row. The Aggies' return 17 letterwinners and six starting position players for the 2019 season.
