NORMAN, Okla.- Texas A&M's Amber Park shot a 5-under 66, which put her in a five-way tie for first after the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club. The women's golf team is tied for fifth with a 2-over 286.

"It really was a great day today," head coach Andrea Gaston said. "The team did a great job today, with the wind picking up, it was not quite the finish we were looking for, but I think each day we are learning something and the girls' confidence is picking up. We're very excited about what we're seeing."

Park rattled off five birdies in a seven-hole span to shoot a career-best 66 on the par 71 / 6,048 course, tying Lauren Stephenson of Alabama, Aya Johnson of Wisconsin, Jiwon Jeon of Alabama and Sara Kouskova of Texas for the top spot on the leaderboard. Park, who has four career top-10 finishes in 14 career events, is searching for her first career tournament victory.

"Obviously, outstanding play by Amber Park today," Gaston added. "She hit the ball well, made six birdies, and really putted better than I've ever seen. I know she's been working really hard on that, but there's never any guarantees, so we're excited for her."

Freshman Brooke Tyree had a strong first round, shooting a 1-over 72 that included three birdies and an eagle on the par 4 / 272-yard fourth. Tyree, who tied for 17th at the Aggies' last event, is tied for 32nd.

Freshman Katie Finley shot a 2-over 73 in her first career round, coming in her home state of Oklahoma, to place in a tie for 40th after a round. Courtney Dow's round was highlighted by a chip-in birdie at the par 3 / 165-yard 17th, sitting in a tie for 58th with a 4-over 75. Ava Schwienteck is 81st with a 12-over 83.

The Aggies tee off in the second of three rounds of the Schooner Fall Classic at 9:50 Saturday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
