NORMAN, Okla.- The Texas A&M women's golf team posted one of the top rounds in school history, firing an 8-under 276 in Saturday's second round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club.

"I am very proud of the way the team played today," head coach Andrea Gaston said. "I always feel it's important to improve each day as we get to know the course better. It's great to see our Aggies under par in a very competitive field. It's been a great team effort during this tournament. We are excited to get out there tomorrow and have some fun."

The Aggies' second round effort on the par 71 / 6,048-yard course is the seventh-best score relative to par in school history, and the best effort of Gaston's four-round tenure at A&M. The Aggies are at 6-under 562 entering Sunday's final round in fifth place. Alabama leads the tournament at 34-under par.

Sophomore Amber Park leads the Aggies' individually, with a 9-under 133, three strokes behind tournament leader Jiwon Jeon of Alabama (-12). Park carded a 4-under 67 on Saturday, birdieing three straight holes at one point for her third par-or-better round in four tries this season.

"I was going really steady going through the front nine today," Park said. "Then I started to drop some putts that started the momentum, and I just took advantage of that."

Sophomore transfer Ava Schwienteck shot a career-best 68, bouncing back from a first-round 83. She moved 14 places up the leaderboard, and is tied for 67th at 9-over.

"Today, I just focused on coming back from yesterday's round and contributing to the team," Schwienteck added. "I hit the ball well today, hit a lot of greens, I just tried to stay patient throughout the entire round and take it one shot at a time."

Freshman Brooke Tyree and Katie Finley both shot career-bests on Saturday. Tyree had a 1-under 70, moving to even par and 28th place. Finley, playing in her home state, is tied for 35th with a 2-over 144, carding an even-par 71.
"I made a lot of crucial par putts to keep my momentum going, and stayed patient, waiting for a birdie," Tyree said.

"I'm very proud of the team," added Finley. "The weather may not be the best, but the team showed dedication to stick through it all."

Junior Courtney Dow rounded out the Aggie lineup with a 4-over 75. Dow is 66th overall at 8-over par.
