SEC Runner of the Week honor for Texas A&M's Jon Bishop

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Jon Bishop earned SEC men's Runner of the Week honors for his performance in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational held in Chicago this past Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M's Jon Bishop earned SEC men's Runner of the Week honors for his performance in the Loyola Lakefront Invitational held in Chicago this past Saturday.
 
Bishop, a junior from College Station, led the Aggies to a fifth-place team effort among 30-plus schools. In covering the 8,000m course in a time of 24:40.7, Bishop placed 18th among a field a 349 runners. The time he posted is the fastest among the team this season by 17 seconds.
 
A qualifier for the national championship meet last fall, Bishop previously had been the second runner for Texas A&M in a pair of home meet victories to start this season, finishing just behind Jacob Perry in each outing. In the Loyola meet, Perry was the second Aggie finisher behind Bishop.
 
In South Central region rankings the Aggie men remain No. 3 behind Arkansas and Texas, while stationed ahead of Rice, Lamar, UT Arlington, Incarnate Word, North Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeese State.
 
Texas A&M women moved up a spot in the region rankings to No. 4. The top three teams include Arkansas, SMU and Texas. Other schools behind the Aggies include TCU, Arkansas State, Texas State, LSU, Baylor and UT Rio Grande Valley.
 
The next race for the team will be the Arturo Barrios Invitational which Texas A&M will host Saturday, October 13, on the Dale Watts Cross Country course. The field of 24 teams includes nationally-ranked programs in Oklahoma State men (No. 24) and women (No. 29) along with Middle Tennessee State men (No. 28).
 
SEC schools participating in the Barrios Invitational include Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt. Other Big 12 programs include Oklahoma, TCU, Texas and Texas Tech.
