Texas A&M’s Williams earns Earl Campbell Tyler Rose weekly honor

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M junior Trayveon Williams earned honorable mention weekly honors by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award following a stellar performance against the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Southwest Classic, it was announced Tuesday.

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M junior Trayveon Williams earned honorable mention weekly honors by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award following a stellar performance against the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Southwest Classic, it was announced Tuesday.
 
Williams rushed for 152 yards, his third 100-yard game of the season, on a career-high 29 rushes with two touchdowns. The Houston native powered his way into the end zone from one yard out in the first quarter, giving the Aggies a 14-0 lead. In the fourth quarter, Williams scored Texas A&M's final touchdown on a four-yard scamper with 5:03 remaining.
 
During the game, Williams became the 17th Aggie in school history to surpass the 3,000-yard mark in career all-purpose yardage. For the season, he currently ranks second in the SEC and eighth in FBS with 582 rushing and is tied for second in the conference with six rushing touchdowns.
 
This is the second time Williams has been honored by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award as he was named an honorable mention following his performance against Northwestern State in the season opener.
 
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
 
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year D1 Texas college.
