Texas A&M’s Aguilar, Vacherot and Vedri Win at ITA All-American

TULSA, Oklahoma –Texas A&M's Carlos Aguilar, Valentin Vacherot and Alex Vedri picked up impressive wins at the ITA Men's All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Thursday.

TULSA, Oklahoma –Texas A&M's Carlos Aguilar, Valentin Vacherot and Alex Vedri picked up impressive wins at the ITA Men's All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Thursday.
 
No. 84 Aguilar kicked off the day with a 6-3, 7-6(2) win over No. 71 Igor Saveljic of NC State to advance to face No. 20 Oliver Crawford at 9:00 a.m. Friday. No. 25 Vacherot followed up with his first top-25 win of the season, besting No. 23 Aswin Lizen of Virginia, 6-2, 6-1, to move on to face Alexandre Rotsaert of Stanford.
 
Aguilar and freshman Alex Vedri dazzled in their first career match as partners, the 26th ranked doubles tandem outlasted No. 25 Alex Brown and Caleb Chakravarthi of Illinois to advance to the second round against No. 12 Henrik Kirsgaard and Alex Ribeiro of Virginia Tech
 
Barnaby Smith saw his undefeated run in Oklahoma come to an end, the sophomore advanced to the main draw with a trio of wins in qualifying including a pair of ranked wins. Smith fell 6-4, 6-2 to No. 75 Charlie Brown of Dartmouth, but will take on No. 122 Clement Marzol of South Alabama in the consolation draw.
 
The Aggies were one of six schools with three players in the main draw and one of five schools with multiple underclassmen. The 2018 tournament marks the first time since 2015 that the Maroon & White have qualified a trio into the main draw.
 
The University of Tulsa is hosting the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championship for the 13th straight season, with matches taking place on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Main draw matches are set to continue through Monday.
 
In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players are competing to secure a berth into the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 7-11, in Surprise, Arizona. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
