COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M's Alex Albright and Darby Gardner were named SEC September Riders of the Month following a stellar season-opening performance against then-No. 4 Oklahoma State, the conference office announced Thursday.
Albright was named the rider of the month in Horsemanship, while Gardner earned Reining distinctions. It was the first career SEC monthly honor for both riders.
Albright helped lead the Horsemanship squad to a 3-1 victory over the Cowgirls as the sophomore defeated Paige Kemper, 74.5-71. For her efforts, the Lockport, Illinois, native was named Most Outstanding Player (MOP) for the second time in her career.
Gardner recorded her first-career MOP following a 73-68 victory over Stephanie Helsen. The New Braunfels, Texas, native secured the first point in Reining as the Aggies went on to win the event, 3-1.
The Aggies are back in action Friday at No. 6 TCU at 10 a.m.
