CARROLLTON, Texas- Texas A&M's Walker Lee and Brandon Smith are tied for fourth after two of three rounds at the Maridoe Intercollegiate. The Aggie men's golf team, in sixth place at the start of the day, moved up to third place after Sunday's second round.

Lee shot even-par 70, one of four players in the entire field to go par-or-better at Maridoe Golf Club Sunday. Lee, at 4-over for the tournament, had his first par-or-better round of the season, and the 15th of his career.

"It was a really good round by Walker Lee today," head coach JT Higgins said. "Even par out here is a great score, so I'm really proud of him."

Smith battled back from a triple bogey and a bogey on his first two holes to shoot a 3-over 73 on the par 70 / 7,017 yard track. After starting 4-over through two holes, he played the next 16 at 1-under par, including shooting a bogey-free 2-under on the back nine. At 4-over 144 for the tournament, Smith and Lee sit four strokes behind tournament leader Phillip Knowles of North Florida (140/E).

"Brandon Smith was leading us and showed us what it takes to be successful in a place like this," Higgins added. "He played really good, bogey-free golf on the back-nine. He and Walker did a great job."

Texas A&M enters the final round 29-over par (588) in third place, shooting a second-round 295 (+15). The Aggies are three strokes behind second-place North Texas (+25) and 13 strokes behind tournament leader SMU (+15).

"We moved a couple of spots up the leaderboard, but we're still not playing golf the way I would like to see us play," Higgins said. "When you get on a championship course like this, it demands patience, discipline and toughness, and right now we're lacking in all three. We got a long way to go in the season; hopefully this tournament and this course are showing us some areas where we need to get better."

Sam Bennett is tied for 26th at 10-over 150, carding a 6-over 76 on Sunday. Dan Erickson is a stroke behind at 11-over par, tied for 29th place after a second-round 77 (+7). Reese Ramsey shot a 6-over 76 to tie for 43rd place at 14-over 154.

Competing as an individual, Josh Gliege shot a 6-over 76, and is tied for 72nd at 23-over par.

The Aggies tee off at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the final round of the 54-hole tournament. Live scoring is available on golfstat.com, and updates can be found on Twitter at @aggiemensgolf.
