Texas A&M Gets Another 3-2 Victory Against Georgia
Oct 14, 2018 | Volleyball
ATHENS, Ga. – In a typical marathon match-up between Texas A&M and Georgia, the teams battle through five sets before A&M closed out a 24-26, 25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12 victory today at Stegeman Coliseum.
Texas A&M (12-7, 5-2 SEC) won its 12th consecutive match in the series against Georgia (12-7, 3-5 SEC) and improved to 10-0 against the Bulldogs in SEC matches only. Although A&M owns a lopsided lead in the SEC series, six of the 10 conference meetings between the two teams have been decided in five sets, including the Aggies' 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs when the teams met earlier this season at Reed Arena. It also was the fourth time in five SEC matches played in Athens that the two teams played a decisive fifth set.
Junior outside hitter Hollann Hans led the Aggies with 23 kills and also tallied her team-leading eighth double-double of season as she added 15 digs. Freshman middle blocker London Austin-Roark also had double-figure kills with 11 and took match-high honors in blocks with six as A&M outblocked Georgia, 10-5.
Senior libero Amy Houser had 16 digs, marking her 11th consecutive match to reach double figures, and junior outside hitter Brookah Palmer collected an A&M career high 16 digs to tie Houser for team-high honors. Freshman defensive specialist Allison Fields pitched in 14 digs.
Aggie sophomore setter Camille Conner dished out 56 assists while directing the offense to a .324 hitting percentage, A&M's highest hitting percentage in a five-set match this season and its second highest hitting efficiency in all matches this season. In the pivotal fifth set, A&M outhit Georgia, .478 to .292, as the Aggies recorded 11 kills without an error in 23 attempts.
Other than Hans, who took 64 swings for the match, all six other players who posted at least four kills hit .320 or above, including sophomore Morgan Davis, who subbed in at middle blocker late in the fourth set and finished the match with four kills without an error in five attempts.
T'ara Ceasar led the Bulldogs with 28 kills while hitting .218.
SET-BY-SET SUMMARIES
Set 1 – Georgia used a 3-0 run to equal its largest lead, 19-16, and the Bulldogs maintained the three-point cushion at 21-18 before Hans and Palmer had back-to-back kills. The Bulldogs regained the lead, 23-21, as they were successful on consecutive attacks, but their next two attack attempts resulted in errors, allowing A&M to knot the score at 23-23. Palmer and Patterson then blocked an attack by Majesti Bass to give the Aggies their first lead and put A&M at set point, 24-23. Ritchie countered with a kill to tie the score for the ninth time and followed with an ace to put Georgia at set point. Ceasar then closed out the stanza with her sixth kill.

On today's win…
"Road wins in this league are huge, especially at this point in the season. Georgia is a solid team and we knew it was going to be a battle. It wasn't pretty in terms of execution at times, but our offense kept us in it.
"This group fights and figures out how to earn points. Morgan Davis was a spark for us off the bench at the end of the fourth set. I'm proud of her for owning her moment and executing offensively to end the match."
