Oct 17, 2018 | Football
NEW YORK – After posting career highs in receptions and yards in the Aggies' 26-23 victory at South Carolina, Texas A&M tight end Jace Sternberger earned honorable mention honors from the Mackey Award, it was announced Wednesday.
Sternberger, who has been named a midseason All-American by ESPN.com, TheAthletic.com, Associated Press and Pro Football Focus, hauled in seven passes for 145 yards and a touchdown against the Gamecocks. The junior college transfer from Northeast Oklahoma A&M leads all FBS tight ends with 496 yards and is tied for first in touchdowns at six, which established a school record for the most touchdowns in a single season by a tight end.
This is the second honor by the John Mackey Award for Sternberger as he was named the Tight End of the Week following the Aggies' season-opening win over Northwestern State.
The John Mackey Tight End of the Week started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by tight ends during the season, while the John Mackey Award is annually presented to the nation's premier tight end.
The John Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 24 awards boast over 750 years of tradition-selection excellence. Visit www.NCFAA.org to learn more about our story.
