AUSTIN, Texas- Texas A&M's Ava Schwienteck led the women's golf team with a 3-over 75 in the first round of the Betsy Rawls Invitational Friday at the University of Texas Golf Club.

In a day that featured tough scoring conditions and an average score of 77.48, the Aggies shot 20-over 308 to sit in 8th place, but only six shots out of the top five. Host No. 6 Texas leads the tournament with a 3-over 291 and the Longhorns' Agathe Laisne, playing as an individual, leads with a 4-under 68.

Schwienteck is tied for 20th after a round, playing the back nine of the par 72 / 6,491-yard circuit at Steiner Ranch at even par in the first round. Courtney Dow had four birdies on the day and played the four par 3s at one-under par, and is tied for 35th at 5-over par.

Amber Park, who is the team's leader in stroke average, shot a 6-over 78 in the first round, tying for 41st with teammate Katie Finley, who finished her day with seven straight pars. Brooke Tyree is tied for 50th, shooting a 7-over 79.
