BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas A&M two-time All-America cornerback Pat Thomas was named to the Southeastern Conference's 2018 AT&T SEC Football Legends class that will be honored at the 2018 SEC Championship Game in December.
Thomas, who lettered for the Aggies from 1972-75, earned first-team All-Southwest Conference and All-America honors in 1974 and 1975. As a senior in 1975, Thomas led the Aggies to a share of the SWC Championship as a part of Texas A&M's rugged defense that led the nation in total defense (183.8 yards/game) and rushing defense (80.3 yard/game).
The Plano High School product was selected in the second round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams and went on to earn first-team NFL All-Pro honors in 1980 and trips to the Pro Bowl in 1978 and 1980. Thomas and the Rams played in the 1980 Super Bowl XIV, but dropped a 31-19 decision to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Following his playing career, Thomas coached in the NFL and USFL. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame in 1986.
