Texas A&M’s Bennett, Miller and Phillips Shoot Even Par To Close Fall Season
Oct 21, 2018 | Men's Golf
ALPHARETTA, Ga.- Texas A&M's Sam Bennett, Max Miller and Chandler Phillips shot even-par 72 to lead the men's golf team in the final round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational, the Aggies' final event of the fall.
Bennett signed his fourth scorecard of at least even par of the season to finish the tournament at even-par 216, tying for 21st. Phillips tied for 29th at 1-over par, turning in his 75th career par-or-better round. Playing as an individual, Max Miller shot even par 72 on Sunday to tie for 34th at 2-over. Miller played the final 36 holes of the tournament at 1-under par.
"This tournament was pretty frustrating for us," head coach JT Higgins said. "Really we identified some weaknesses and some places where we got to get better."
"I think the potential for this team to have a great year and a great spring is still there in front of us. We really have to tighten things up though," Higgins added about the fall season. "Sam Bennett really emerged as one of our strongest players, he had a great fall campaign. Brandon Smith continued to get better and become more of a leader. I'm looking forward to the spring."
Texas A&M finished 10th at 5-over after shooting a 5-over 293 on the par 72 / 7,017-yard course Sunday. No. 10 Southern California won the tournament at -22, with the Trojans' Justin Suh taking medalist honors at -14.
Walker Lee had a 1-over 73 in the final round at the Golf Club of Georgia, playing the back nine at 2-under to finish tied for 38th at 3-over. Brandon Smith tied for 34th at 2-over par, with a final-round 76.
Reese Ramsey rounded out the Aggie lineup with a 6-over 78 to finish tied for 67th, at 13-over par.
The Aggies have concluded their fall season, and resume play January 28-29 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz.
