Texas A&M’s Cameron Champ Earns First PGA Tour Victory
Oct 28, 2018 | Men's Golf
JACKSON, Mississippi- Former Texas A&M All-American golfer Cameron Champ earned his first career PGA Tour victory, in only his ninth career start, shooting 21-under par to win the Sanderson Farms Championship by four strokes.
Champ led the tournament from wire-to-wire, birdieing five of his last six holes to win the championship by four strokes at the Country Club of Jackson. His final round contained plenty of drama, as eventual runner-up Corey Conners pulled even at the turn. Champ clinched the victory with a 158-yard shot from the rough on No. 18 that came within seven feet of the hole to set up a birdie putt. Champ had to change the head on his driver prior to the last round—his original drive head broke in warm ups for a player regarded as one of the longest hitters on Tour.
Champ was an All-American at Texas A&M in 2017, averaging 71.50 strokes per round, and a two-time All-Region selection. He becomes the seventh Aggie to win a North American PGA Tour event.
