Texas A&M Women’s Tennis Advance Five to Championship Finals at UNLV Rebel Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Texas A&M women's tennis continued its strong play at the UNLV Rebel Invite hosted at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas Saturday afternoon. The Maroon & White were 5-0 in singles action and 2-1 in doubles play on the day.
"It was a very good day for the Aggies in Las Vegas," Texas A&M women's tennis head coach Mark Weaver said. "We have four of our five singles players playing in the championship match of their flight tomorrow and also one of our three doubles teams competing for the title of their bracket as well. We look forward to tomorrow and one more day of competing at our highest of levels once again."
Freshman Jayci Goldsmith was the first of four Aggies to advance to the championship match in Sin City. Goldsmith skipped past Lana Rush of Texas Tech, 6-4, 6-4, and competes against Anna Bogoslavets of UNLV for the flight one title.
Freshman Katya Townsend went through to Sunday's title round with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Michelle Bacalla of Iowa. Townsend will stand across the net from Izumi Asano of UNLV for the flight two crown.
Sophomore Riley McQuaid dusted Amina Mukhametshina of Purdue 6-1, 6-2 and opposes En-Pei Huang of UNLV for the flight three championship.
Sophomore Dorthea Faa-Hviding outlasted Caitlin Calkins of Purdue 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Faa-Hviding takes on Maria Medina of Liberty for the flight five title on Sunday.
Sophomore Tatiana Makarova advanced to the consolation finals of flight one with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Emma Wilson of Arizona. Makarova will face off against Minying Liang of North Texas on Sunday.
In doubles action, Goldsmith and Makarova took a tiebreaker over Kennedy Bridgeforth and Rush of Texas Tech to advance to Sunday's flight one doubles championship match against No. 37 Aiwen Zhu and Huang of UNLV.
Faa-Hviding and McQuaid advanced to the consolation final of flight two with a 7-6 win over Cloe Ruette and Adorabol Huckleby of Iowa. The Maroon and White duo face Sophia Thomas and Taylor Tamblin of Arizona on Sunday.
Townsend and Jessica Anzo will take on Abby Wariner and Amanda Reinhart of Air Force in the third place match of doubles flight three after falling 6-4 to Medina and Rebekah Anderson of Liberty.
Joining the Aggies in the impressive field are competitors from top national programs such as Air Force, Arizona, Iowa, Liberty, North Texas, Purdue, Texas Tech and UNLV. Featuring six flights of singles and three flights of doubles, all matches are free and open to the public.
