Team Aggies Win Game Two to Even Maroon & White Series

COLLEGE STATION – Team Aggies defeated Team Gig 'Em and Team 12th Man, 7-3-0, respectively, Wednesday night in game two of the Maroon & White Series at Davis Diamond.

COLLEGE STATION – Team Aggies defeated Team Gig 'Em and Team 12th Man, 7-3-0, respectively, Wednesday night in game two of the Maroon & White Series at Davis Diamond.

With the victory, Team Aggies evened the series with Team 12th Man with the finale scheduled for Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

The Maroon & White Series took on a new format for the 2018 season as the three teams batted six players and were scheduled for four offensive appearances.

Team Aggies struck first in their first appearance at the dish, on a RBI single down the third baseline by Baylee Klingler, scoring Kylie George, who had reached on a single.

In their second plate appearance, Team Aggies added five more runs to their lead. George started things off with a bunt single and advanced to third on a throwing error. Kelbi Fortenberry capitalized on the miscue and hit a RBI single through the right side, scoring George. With one out in the inning, Haley Lee smacked a RBI double off the left field wall, scoring Fortenberry. A Dani Elder single and a Kayla Garcia walk loaded the bases for Team Aggies, before the inning was capped off with a bases-clearing RBI double by Kayla Poynter.

Team Aggies, who had four of their six batters record two hits in the game, extended their lead in top of the fifth with a RBI groundout by Garcia, scoring Fortenberry.

Team Gig 'Em plated three runs in four plate appearances. In their first at bat, Sarah Hudek hit a moon shot solo home run to right field. In their second plate appearance, Hudek started things off with a double to left field, and later scored on a Meagan Smith RBI single down the left field line. Team Gig 'Em scored their final run in their third at bat with Hudek hitting a double down the left field line, before scoring on a wild pitch.

Team 12th Man was held scoreless, but was highlighted by Riley Sartain, who went 2-for-2 on the day.

In the circle, Hannah Mayo tossed four shutout innings allowing two hits while striking out three. Poynter allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out six in her four innings of work. Payton McBride threw three innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits while fanning one.
