DALLAS – Texas A&M running back Trayveon Williams was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's top running back, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Wednesday.
Williams leads the SEC in rushing with 1,159 yards and is second in the conference with 11 rushing touchdowns. One of the league's top receiving backs, he also tops the SEC with 1,431 all-purpose yards.
Williams became the fifth Aggie to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark twice in his career and currently ranks eighth on Texas A&M's single-season list.
Last week against Ole Miss, the Houston, Texas, native torched the Rebel defense to the tune of 228 yards on a career-high 31 carries. The effort was his sixth 100-yard game of the season and was the fourth 200-yard rushing game of his career, tying Darren Lewis (1987-90) for the school record. He joined Lewis as the only two Aggies to record two 200-yard games in a season.
In the season opener against Northwestern State, Williams ran roughshod through the defense for 240 yards and three touchdowns. The 240-yard outburst ranks as the No. 8 single-game effort in FBS and Williams is the only FBS player with 200-yard rushing games in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
For his career, Williams is the sixth Aggie to reach the 3,000-yard mark in career rushing yards and is tied for fifth all-time with 3,014 yards. Williams ranks seventh in program history in career all-purpose yardage at 3,834.
Following this weekend's games, the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee votes to determine the three finalists which will be announced Monday, Nov. 19. Of the three finalists, the winner of the Doak Walker Award is announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 6 on ESPN.
