COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M outside hitter Hollann Hans was named to the All-SEC Team for volleyball, and middle blocker London Austin-Roark was selected to the leagues' All-Freshman Team, the Southeastern Conference announced today.
Hans led the SEC with 5.30 points and 0.61 aces per set, as well as 12 double-doubles, in conference matches only as she powered Texas A&M (17-13, 10-8 SEC) to a fifth-place tie in the SEC standings. The junior, who also leads the conference with 5.20 points per set and 16 double-doubles for the full season, was a three-time SEC Offensive Player of the Week, and she also was tabbed SEC Player of the Week during the season.
Hans broke or tied more than 20 A&M match, single season and career records during the year, including an all-time high 64 aces in the season to obliterate the previous longest standing record of 59 aces set by Chris Zogata in 1983. A few of the other records Hans set include aces in a match (8) and aces in an SEC career (89), total kills (32) and points (34) in a match in the 25-point rally scoring era, and total kills (528) and points (624) as well as kills per set (4.4) and points per set (5.2) in a season in the 25-point rally scoring era. Hans even tied a school record for most solo blocks in a five-set SEC match with three against Missouri.
The Corpus Christi, Texas, native took team-high honors in points in 25 matches and in kills in 24 contests. Hans recorded double-figure kills in 27 of 29 matches played, tallying 20 or more kills 15 times. The six-rotation player, who was second on the team with 2.78 digs per set in SEC matches and 2.60 digs per set for the full season, also reached double-digit digs in 17 matches, and she recorded the first 20-20 performance of her career with 22 kills and a career-high 21 digs against Tennessee.
Austin-Roark, from Weatherford, Texas, was one of only two players to start every match for the Aggies this season. The rookie led the Aggies with 0.86 blocks per set in SEC matches only and 0.79 blocks per set for the full season. She also led or tied for the A&M lead in blocks in a team-high 13 matches, and her nine blocks in the five-set victory against Georgia was the most by an A&M player this season and ties for the seventh most blocks in a five-set match in the 25-point rally scoring era.
Austin-Roark was second on the team behind Hans with 10 double-figure kill performances, including a career-high 15 kills at Missouri.
