Texas A&M’s Garner named to SEC Community Service Team
Nov 28, 2018 | Football
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M linebacker Riley Garner was named to the Southeastern Conference's Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday.
Garner, a marketing major in the Mays Business School, holds a 3.583 GPA and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll the last three years. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee representative for football has traveled to Haiti twice with Mission of Hope and has volunteered to encourage reading to students at four elementary schools in the Bryan-College Station area.
The College Station native has participated in the Big Event three times and has served as a camp counselor for the special needs camp, Camp Blessings Texas. Garner was named the 2018 Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Character Award recipient, and was a volunteer huddle leader at Texas A&M's FCA Sports Camp three times.
A special teams ace, Garner has been a mainstay on the punt and kickoff coverage units for the last four seasons.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
