LAHAINA, Hawaii- Texas A&M's women's basketball team won its third consecutive game, defeating UC Riverside 70-63 in the opening game of the Maui Jim Maui Classic at the Lahaina Civic Center.

UC Riverside (2-7) never led in the game, but only trailed 47-45 with three minutes to play in the third quarter. A&M's Chennedy Carter scored eight of her season-high 26 in an ensuing 16-second span to quell the upset bid, making three layups, two free throws and stole an inbounds pass. She scored 17 of A&M's 22 points during a second half stretch.

As has become the norm this season, the Aggies (7-2) raced out of the gates, taking a 9-0 lead before the Highlanders were able to find the bottom of the net. UC Riverside battled back, and only trailed 30-25 at halftime.

In addition to Carter's 26, Ciera Johnson matched her career-high with 18 points, scoring in double figures for the sixth straight game.

N'dea Jones led the Aggies with 10 rebounds, helping the Aggies to a 38-27 advantage on the glass.
