HANGZHOU, China ---Former Texas A&M All-American and four-time Jamaican Olympian Alia Atkinson has earned a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships.

Atkinson won a nail biter of a race to secure her third straight short course final in the event. She touched the wall first in (1:03.51), just a tenth ahead of American Katie Meili (1:03.63).

It was Atkinson's third medal at the Worlds this week, earning a gold in the 50 meter breaststroke and a bronze in the 100 meter individual medley.
